To clarify solleali's comment, the original version of Zarch was a demonstration released with the first Acorn Archimedes home computer, the successor to the BBC Micro in Britain. Firebird picked up the rights to publish it on other systems, and it arrived, renamed to Virus, on the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, and PC. Control can be tricky at first, but a quick guide in the popular games magazine The One helped me greatly, and it became a favourite game of mine.
