Starquake

Starquake is a 1988 platform adventure that sends the player into a dangerous alien world filled with platforms, creatures, hazards, and environmental puzzles. The protagonist must explore the planet, collect useful objects, manipulate the environment, and ultimately deal with a major planetary crisis. The game combines traditional platforming with exploration and problem solving, giving players more to think about than simply reaching the right side of the screen. Starquake has a wonderfully imaginative science-fiction setting and a playful visual style that gives the adventure plenty of character. Its levels reward curiosity, although they can also punish careless exploration with impressive efficiency. The game belongs to an era when platform adventures expected players to discover their own solutions rather than providing constant hints. You may not always know what an object does, where you should go, or why that creature is chasing you. But at least the planet is falling apart, so there is clearly no time to worry about it.
