Abandonware DOS title

SimEarth

SimEarth is a simulation in which you can shape and mold a planet in almost every way you can imagine. In SimEarth our planet is simulated as a whole: life, climate, atmosphere are all aspects of a single Gaia-like Earth. SimEarth can be played in two modes: game and experimental. In game mode, you have to to develop (and preserve) Earth with limited energy levels. In experimental mode, you are given unlimited energy to do what you want in a classic sandbox style.

SimEarth review

PC Review - Issue 8 (1992): "Not so much a world manager as a world builder, Maxis followed Sim City with an educational tool based on the Gaia hypothesis and puts the player in charge of every single aspect of a living planet, from the raising and lowering of land masses to the creation and population of the seas. The program is enormously flexible. You need a 286 or above to really appreciate the game. Complex in the extreme, and detailed enough to keep your interest for many months."

The game is good but it's kinda complex and the fact that any organism can gain sentience and form civilizations feels kinda creepy to me.
