MegaRace 2 builds on the original's futuristic racing formula while pushing the presentation even further. The game offers a collection of wild tracks, armed vehicles, aggressive opponents, and the sort of scenery that suggests someone gave a production designer unlimited access to neon paint. Racing remains firmly arcade-oriented, so the emphasis is on speed, weapons, shortcuts, and surviving the course rather than reproducing realistic motorsport. Once again, Lance Boyle provides his peculiar brand of commentary, turning each race into something resembling a very strange television broadcast. The sequel benefits from improved technology and a larger sense of spectacle, although its humor remains deliberately over-the-top. It is best approached as a flashy time capsule from the mid-1990s, when digitized actors and extravagant video sequences were considered the future. Fortunately, the racing itself is still fun.
