Norton Commander 3

Norton Commander 3 is one of the classic DOS file managers, and for many users it was the program that finally made dealing with files feel civilized. Its famous two-panel interface lets you browse directories, copy and move files, rename things, and perform all the other little chores that DOS normally made unnecessarily fiddly. Keyboard shortcuts are central to the experience, making it possible to work quickly without constantly typing commands. There are no animated icons, no translucent windows, and certainly no helpful assistant asking whether you really meant to delete that directory. Norton Commander simply gets on with the job. Version 3 belongs to the period when this style of interface became almost a standard for serious DOS users. Even today, its efficiency is surprisingly appealing, particularly if you enjoy the satisfying feeling of controlling a computer entirely from the keyboard.
