S.T.U.N. Runner is a 1990 DOS conversion of Atari's futuristic arcade racer, throwing players into a high-speed world of twisting tracks, jumps, enemies, and spectacular obstacles. Players pilot a futuristic vehicle through tubular courses while maintaining an absurdly high speed and trying not to become intimately acquainted with the walls. The tracks twist and loop in ways that make ordinary racing look positively pedestrian, while weapons and hazards keep the action moving. The game captures the arcade original's sense of speed surprisingly well, even though playing it on a home computer is rather different from standing in front of a giant arcade cabinet. S.T.U.N. Runner is pure kinetic entertainment: there is little time for sightseeing and even less time for regret. If your idea of a relaxing drive involves gravity-defying turns at ridiculous speed, this is probably the family car you were looking for.
