Sandstorm

Sandstorm is an atmospheric action game that places the player in a hostile environment where visibility, movement, and survival all become part of the challenge. The desert setting gives the game a distinctive mood, with the constant threat of danger making even apparently open spaces feel uncomfortable. Gameplay focuses on navigating the terrain, avoiding or dealing with enemies, and reaching objectives without wasting valuable resources. Its graphics are necessarily limited by the technology of the early 1990s, but the developers make good use of the available hardware to create a suitably harsh landscape. The experience is less about complicated storytelling and more about getting through one dangerous situation after another. Sandstorm has the rough-edged charm of an era when games were often willing to throw players into unfamiliar mechanics and let them figure things out. It is dusty, tense, and occasionally unforgiving.
