Shanghai

Shanghai is a digital adaptation of the classic mahjong solitaire format, transforming a traditional tile-matching puzzle into a remarkably addictive computer pastime. The objective is simple: remove matching pairs of exposed tiles until the entire arrangement disappears. Naturally, the word simple becomes considerably less convincing once the tiles begin stacking into complicated patterns and a seemingly harmless move leaves an important piece trapped underneath. The game rewards planning, patience, and a good eye for which tiles are genuinely available. Its presentation is restrained, allowing the elegant puzzle mechanics to do the work without unnecessary distractions. Shanghai became especially well suited to computer play because it turns a physical tabletop puzzle into something that can be played alone at any time. It is quiet, thoughtful, and dangerously good at convincing you that solving just one more layout will only take a minute.
