Sid & Al's Incredible Toons is a wonderfully strange 1993 puzzle game where the laws of physics seem to have taken an extended vacation. Players create elaborate contraptions using cartoon characters, objects, ropes, balloons, explosions, and other increasingly ridiculous ingredients to solve each puzzle. The goal is usually simple, but getting everything to happen in exactly the right order can require considerable experimentation. The game encourages players to think creatively rather than follow a single obvious solution, and watching a complicated plan finally work is immensely satisfying. Its hand-drawn cartoon style and mischievous sense of humor give it plenty of personality. There is something especially enjoyable about constructing a machine that looks completely absurd and discovering that, against all reasonable expectations, it actually works. Sid & Al's Incredible Toons is puzzle design with a healthy disregard for engineering standards.
