Whale's Voyage

Whale's Voyage is a quirky science-fiction adventure that combines exploration, trading, combat, and a surprisingly large amount of freedom. Despite the title, you are not spending the afternoon following a majestic whale through the Pacific; instead, the game sends you into space aboard a vessel whose adventures involve planets, alien civilizations, resources, and the occasional unpleasant surprise. The emphasis is on exploration and discovery, with plenty of room to decide where to go and what sort of trouble to get into. Its interface and presentation can feel a little rough around the edges, but that is part of the charm. This is the sort of game where curiosity is often more useful than reflexes. If you enjoy old-school space adventures with a slightly eccentric personality, Whale's Voyage has plenty of strange corners worth investigating.
