Remakes of the month: OpenTTD and Simutrans

Transport Tycoon is one of the best tycoon games ever developed, maybe second to Railroad Tycoon or Roller Coaster Tycoon. While both Railroad and Roller Coaster cousins had a lot of sequels, Transport Tycoon was a lonely child (well, if you don't count Locomotion...). Maybe that's why a bunch of hardcore fans showed much dedication to different project: Transport Tycoon was patched (TTDPatch), ported for mobile devices and remade twice! Yes, there are two remakes and they are still in (slow) developement.

Simutrans it's very similar to Transport Tycoon, is open source and available for a plethora of systems. If you get tired of the default graphics you can even download a lot of 'paksets' from the official site.

I must confess that my favourite is OpenTTD. It started as am expanded remake of the original, with the same graphics and basic features, but it slowly grew in something more. OpenTDD now boasts different map sizes, custom AI, mods, internet multiplayer up to 255 players.

If you loved the old Transport Tycoon, try Simutrans or OpenTTD, you won't be disappointed.
