Released in 1988 for DOS, Star Trek: First Contact (not to be confused with the later movie) is more puzzle-solving than phaser-firing. You take control of the Enterprise crew as they deal with — you guessed it — mysterious aliens and time-sensitive problems. The visuals are basic, but the writing tries hard to capture that Trekkian mix of curiosity and danger. Gameplay can feel clunky, but the atmosphere is pure vintage Trek. It’s the kind of game that makes you want to whisper, “Make it so,” even when all you’re really making is a logic error.
