Might and Magic Book One: Secret of the Inner Sanctum is the place where the whole saga begins, and it proudly carries the wild ambition of early computer RPGs. The land of Varn is vast, mysterious, and filled with creatures that seem oddly enthusiastic about attacking your fragile party of beginners. The game throws you into its world with very little explanation, which means exploration quickly becomes a mixture of curiosity, confusion, and occasional panic. Yet that’s also its greatest strength: every discovery feels earned, whether it’s a hidden dungeon, a new spell, or simply surviving a battle that looked hopeless. Primitive by modern standards, perhaps, but there’s a raw sense of adventure here that captures the spirit of early RPG design wonderfully well.
