The Blues Brothers transforms Jake and Elwood Blues into the stars of a colorful platform adventure. Released in 1991, it sends the duo through a series of stages filled with obstacles, enemies, platforms, and objects that seem determined to make their musical career considerably more dangerous than necessary. The gameplay is straightforward, with plenty of jumping and exploration, while the characters' distinctive appearance gives the game plenty of personality. It captures some of the playful energy associated with the Blues Brothers without trying to turn the experience into a serious action title. The levels can be tricky, especially when precise movement is required, but that is part of the old-school platforming charm. The Blues Brothers is an entertaining example of a licensed game that understands the value of recognizable characters and a little silliness. Apparently saving the world was not on the itinerary. Surviving the next platform, however, is.
