Volfied is a deceptively simple arcade puzzle game in which drawing lines is far more dangerous than it sounds. The basic idea is straightforward: your little craft moves around a large playing field while you carve off sections by creating enclosed areas. Unfortunately, hostile creatures are roaming around inside, and touching one at the wrong moment means trouble. The goal is to claim enough territory to complete each stage, making every new line a small gamble. Released in 1991, it combines the territory-capturing concept of classic arcade games with colorful visuals and increasingly tricky patterns. What makes it addictive is the balance between greed and caution. You always want to grab one more huge chunk of the screen, but that is precisely when the enemy decides to ruin your afternoon. Easy to understand but surprisingly difficult to master, Volfied is the sort of game that can turn five minutes into an hour without asking permission.
