Police Quest 1: In Pursuit of the Death Angel

Police Quest 1: In Pursuit of the Death Angel is a 1987 adventure game that puts players in the role of a police officer investigating crimes and following proper law enforcement procedures. Unlike many adventure games where players solve problems through random experimentation, this title emphasizes realism, requiring careful observation and correct actions. Players patrol streets, gather evidence, question suspects, and attempt to bring criminals to justice. The game was notable for its attention to police procedures, offering a different kind of challenge based on discipline and logic. Police Quest 1 demonstrates that being a detective involves more paperwork and patience than movies usually suggest. Sometimes the most important skill is not chasing criminals dramatically, but remembering to follow every procedure correctly before someone reminds you that you forgot something important.

Police Quest 1: In Pursuit of the Death Angel review

The Games Machine UK (1998): "As with all Sierra's recent adventures, the parser can deal with most likely inputs, and interaction is very good. The car is tricky to control at first and the sound lets the game down slightly, but Police Quest is a large adventure with more than one solution and should keep even hardened text-only-adventure-players amused and involved for quite some time."

Retro gamer collector's corner:

Police Quest was released for the IBM PC, Apple II (128K), Amiga, Atari ST, and Apple IIGS. An SCI 1.1 enhanced version in 256-color VGA was released in 1992.
