The Lion King brings Disney's animated classic to the computer in the form of a platform adventure starring Simba. The game follows the broad story of the film while turning its memorable locations and characters into a series of side-scrolling challenges. Young Simba must run, jump, climb, dodge hazards, defeat enemies, and eventually grow into the role everyone expects him to fill. The environments are colorful and packed with recognizable imagery, while the gameplay alternates between exploration and fast reactions. It can be surprisingly demanding, particularly when a seemingly harmless jump sends Simba straight back to the previous checkpoint. Fans of the movie will appreciate the familiar characters and settings, but there is enough platforming here to stand on its own. It captures that peculiar 1990s licensed-game tradition perfectly: charming presentation, recognizable music, and just enough difficulty to make you question whether Scar secretly designed the level layout.
