The Wizard of Oz brings the familiar world of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion to the computer in an adventure inspired by the classic story. Players travel through Oz, encounter familiar characters and solve problems while trying to navigate a world where roads are rarely as straightforward as they look. The game combines exploration with puzzles and simple adventure mechanics, giving it a distinctly storybook quality. Its technology is obviously limited compared with later licensed adaptations, but the setting does much of the heavy lifting. There is plenty of charm in wandering through a digital Oz and discovering how the designers interpreted one of the most famous fantasy worlds ever created. The Wizard of Oz is best approached as a nostalgic curiosity rather than a technically ambitious blockbuster. It is a small journey into Oz, with just enough magic and trouble to make those ruby slippers seem useful.
