Willow

Willow is a fantasy action adventure inspired by the world of the classic film, placing the player in a magical landscape filled with enemies, exploration, and the usual assortment of things that strongly suggest you should have stayed home. You guide Willow through dangerous areas, fighting opponents and searching for the means to continue the quest. The gameplay combines action with exploration, while the fantasy setting gives the adventure a colorful identity despite the limitations of late-1980s computer hardware. Combat is fairly direct, and success depends as much on learning the environment as on simply charging forward. It is very much a product of its era, but there is an appealing simplicity to its design. Willow works best as a compact retro fantasy journey where every new screen might contain either treasure, trouble, or something that looks suspiciously like both.
