Austerlitz

Austerlitz recreates one of Napoleon's most famous victories as a historical strategy game, putting the player in the middle of the Battle of Austerlitz. The focus is firmly on battlefield decisions, troop positioning and the careful use of terrain rather than twitch reflexes. It is the sort of game where a small movement on a map can have consequences several turns later, which makes impulsive decisions particularly entertaining in hindsight. The presentation is modest, but the historical subject gives the experience plenty of weight. Players interested in Napoleonic warfare will appreciate the opportunity to experiment with formations and tactics without needing an actual army. Naturally, there is no guarantee that you will reproduce Napoleon's brilliance. More likely, you will discover why military commanders traditionally prefer planning battles before the fighting starts.
