Battlestar is a science-fiction game that puts the player in command of a starship facing the usual collection of cosmic problems: hostile forces, dangerous situations and a universe that seems determined to make your working day unpleasant. Exploration and tactical decisions are central, with the player expected to manage the ship rather than simply blast everything in sight. The game reflects an era when computer science fiction often borrowed heavily from the atmosphere of television space adventures, leaving plenty of room for imagination between the pixels. Its interface is dated, but that can actually enhance the nostalgic appeal. There is something satisfying about guiding a tiny collection of symbols across a digital universe and pretending they represent an enormously expensive starship. It is a modest space adventure, best approached as a historical curiosity and an example of early PC science-fiction gaming.
