Beyond Zork: The Coconut of Quendor

If you ever wanted to roleplay in a text adventure where a coconut is of utmost importance, Beyond Zork has your back. This is Infocom at its most delightfully weird: part RPG, part parser game, all nonsense. You’ll customize stats, fight monsters, and read walls of text that somehow make you laugh, think, and shout “WHY?!” in equal measure. The humor is vintage Zork: surreal, satirical, and occasionally a little too clever for its own good. Also, there’s a wizard named Y’Gael. That alone should sell you on it.

Retro gamer collector's corner:

Beyond Zork was one of 20 Infocom games bundled in the 1991 compilation The Lost Treasures of Infocom published by Activision.

The game package contained the following feelies:

  • A large fold-out map of the "Southland of Quendor"
  • A small book titled The Lore and Legends of Quendor, a field guide of sorts to the flora and fauna of the area
