Cannon Fodder 2 continues the gleefully irreverent military mayhem of its predecessor, sending tiny soldiers into missions where survival is never guaranteed and common sense is apparently not required. The basic idea remains wonderfully simple: control a squad, move across dangerous battlefields, complete objectives, and try not to turn your troops into statistics. The mixture of strategy and frantic action makes every mission feel like a small puzzle with bullets flying around it. Soldiers can be selected individually or managed as a group, and the game constantly encourages you to think before charging ahead. Naturally, charging ahead is also extremely tempting. With its cartoon presentation and darkly comic attitude toward warfare, it remains one of those games that makes military strategy surprisingly mischievous.
