Back in 1985, Cavequest asked: what if you mixed ASCII graphics with deadly bats and claustrophobia? The answer: a punishingly hard maze crawler that’ll have you screaming at the screen... in delight or despair. Your quest? Survive. Your weapons? Primitive at best. Your reward? Glorious pixels of cave walls and maybe an exit if you’re lucky. It’s like being lost in a mine with a calculator.
I didn't have an NES when I was a kid, but a PC. This game was available in my public library, I loved playing it. ASCII characters for the cave walls that would change with each entrance and reentrance. I didn't realize until much later that perhaps my computer was a little slow, even for this game, I would run out of stamina so quickly and have to wait for it to recharge.
