Before Command & Conquer, there was Command HQ (1990, DOS/Mac)—an early RTS that said “what if we made World War III playable?” It’s global domination meets real-time tactics, minus the explosions and plus a whole lot of blinking maps. You command armies across continents, manage resources, and hope your dial-up modem doesn’t cut out mid-battle. For its time, it was revolutionary. Today, it’s like the polite granddad of the RTS genre—wise, slow, and full of war stories.
Computer Gaming World (1991): "A product capable of recreating World Wars IIV(?), this is a modified "beer and pretzels" game. Highly recommended for entertainment, although not as a historical learning experience."
PS: I press CTRL+F12 about 40 times to speed the game up

I used to write game programs in the early 80s for the Commodore Vic-20 and C64 and others for Victory Software. This game was amazing then, and it still holds up. When using the DOS emulator, you can press CTRL+F12 to speed the game up. I only play the ????? version, and speeding up the emulator makes the initial set up much faster.

I played this game a ton back in the 90's. In my opinion it was one of the best RTS games created. It certainly set the standard for the genre. There are aspects of this game that sill have not been replicated in other similar games (e.g. aircraft carriers and subs).
