Divine Divinity

Don’t let the tongue-twister title fool you—Divine Divinity is a classic in the sprawling world of RPGs. Think of it as Diablo’s eccentric cousin who insists on telling stories at family gatherings. Released in 2002, it mixes hack-and-slash combat with a surprisingly deep and witty narrative. The world is packed with quests that range from epic dragon-slaying to fetching cheese for villagers (yes, really). The isometric graphics may look dated today, but the charm hasn’t faded. It’s the kind of game where you start out intending to play for ten minutes and suddenly find yourself six hours later still looting barrels.

Divine Divinity review

PC Zone (2002): "It seems the future of role-playing games will inevitably move towards the Morrowinds and Neverwinter Nights of this world, but Div Div is living proof that, when tailored by the right hands, isometric RPGs can still be as captivating and challenging as their 3D counterparts."

Retro gamer collector's corner:

The game was re-released in 2004 along with Beyond Divinity as a part of Beyond Divinity: Deluxe Edition.
