Sports games in 1990 weren’t exactly realistic, but Double Dribble made a surprisingly good attempt. This Konami basketball title brought fast-paced, side-scrolling action to DOS, complete with dunks that zoomed in with cinematic flair. Sure, the players all looked like clones, and the sound effects could drive you insane, but it captured the spirit of basketball better than most of its contemporaries. The AI could be merciless, and multiplayer battles often devolved into laughing fits, but that was part of the charm. For its time, it was less “NBA simulator” and more “Saturday afternoon basketball chaos.”
