Released in 1990, Dragon Strike dared to combine the wonder of Dungeons & Dragons with the thrill of first-person flight simulation. Yes, instead of piloting jets, you piloted dragons—fire-breathing, wing-flapping, fantasy-grade reptiles. It was clunky, sure, but flying over pixelated landscapes and torching enemy riders had its own charm. The sound effects were more “hair dryer on max” than dragon roar, but imagination filled the gaps. It’s a strange hybrid that feels like it shouldn’t work, and yet it does. Half simulator, half fantasy RPG, all nostalgia—it’s the sort of oddball experiment that could only come from the 90s.
