Elvira: Mistress of the Dark is a strange but fascinating blend of adventure game, RPG, and comedy horror. You wander through a spooky mansion, solve puzzles, fight monsters, and get roasted by Elvira herself. The interface is awkward, the combat unforgiving, and the learning curve steep, but the atmosphere is thick with charm. Elvira’s presence turns what could have been a generic horror game into something memorable and self-aware. It’s clumsy, yes, but ambitious, and that ambition shines through. When it works, it really works—and when it doesn’t, at least Elvira has a joke ready.
Dragon (1991): "Elvira is well worth its purchase price. The 800 rooms are sure to keep you occupied for a long time, and the graphics and sound will have you clinging to your seat for many a day."
