The Faery Tale Adventure: Book I is a charming action-adventure set in a colorful fantasy world where exploration matters just as much as fighting. You play a young hero sent on a quest involving magic, danger, villages, forests, caves, and the usual collection of creatures that apparently object strongly to your existence. The world is unusually open for its time, allowing you to wander rather than forcing you down a narrow sequence of levels. That freedom is part of its appeal, although it can also mean spending a fair amount of time wondering where exactly you are supposed to go next. Combat is simple, while exploration and discovering new locations provide much of the entertainment. The presentation has a storybook quality that fits the title nicely. It feels less like a traditional dungeon crawler and more like wandering into a fantasy illustration and being told to find your own adventure.
