Gateworld is one of those games that seems determined to test your patience as much as your reflexes. On paper, it’s a straightforward platformer, but in practice it’s a gauntlet of tricky jumps, awkward controls, and enemies that seem to have a personal vendetta against you. The visuals are colorful and surprisingly detailed for the time, but they can’t quite mask the occasional frustration. Still, there’s a strange appeal to its stubbornness—like it’s daring you to keep going. And if you do, there’s a certain pride in overcoming its many, many obstacles.
