Germ Nation

Germ Nation turns microscopic biological threats into the basis for an arcade-style strategy experience. Instead of commanding armies across huge battlefields, you are dealing with organisms, infections, and the sort of tiny enemies that are impossible to intimidate because you cannot even see them properly. The game mixes action and tactical elements, asking you to react quickly while also thinking about how to handle the spreading threat. Its unusual theme gives it plenty of character, particularly for a game from around the turn of the millennium. The presentation has a suitably energetic feel, keeping the action moving without drowning the player in complicated systems. Germ Nation is certainly not another generic space shooter or fantasy adventure, and that alone makes it interesting. It takes something normally associated with school science lessons and turns it into a videogame threat, proving that even microscopic life can apparently ruin your evening.
