Grand Prix is one of those games that tries to bottle the thrill of Formula racing and pour it into a DOS machine that wheezes like an overworked engine. In Grand Prix, you get a surprisingly serious attempt at simulation for its time, complete with track layouts and the constant fear of spinning out because you got a little too confident. The visuals are basic, but the tension is real, especially when you realize mistakes are punished immediately and without mercy. It feels like driving on ice while someone shouts lap times at you, and somehow that is exactly why it works.
