In The Hunt is a side-scrolling shooter that looks like Metal Slug took a deep breath and dove underwater. Released in arcades first and later ported to PC, it’s all about piloting a heavily armed submarine through claustrophobic environments packed with enemies, explosions, and absurdly detailed pixel art. The pacing is deliberate but relentless, giving every torpedo impact a satisfying weight. Boss fights are huge, noisy affairs that seem determined to fill the entire screen with mechanical nonsense. While it can be brutally difficult, it rarely feels cheap, instead daring you to master positioning and timing. There’s a playful sense of excess in the visuals that keeps things lively even when you’re being annihilated for the tenth time. It’s a shooter with personality, and that personality is loud, explosive, and slightly unhinged.
