Mechwarrior is an old DOS science fiction vehicle simulation game, developed by Dynamix, designed by Paul Bowman - Damon Slye and published by Activision in 1989. It's available for download. Mechwarrior is also part of the Mechwarrior series.
What they thought about it
"The visuals throughout Mechwarrior are expertly drawn, with full CGA, EGA and Tandy 16 graphics modes support. The sim's filled vectors move along at a fair pace even on an 8Mhz baby. The worst aspect of the audio are the appalling soundtracks that crop up during the game. Mechwarrior will no only appeal to fans of the board game, but also deserves a look from any self-respecting role-game or simulation player." - ACE Magazine
