MegaRace

MegaRace is a futuristic racing game that combines high-speed driving with an unusually strong dose of television-show theatrics. Races take place on strange tracks filled with obstacles, sharp turns, and opponents who seem to regard road safety as a personal insult. The presentation is dominated by digitized video sequences and the flamboyant host Lance Boyle, who provides commentary with the enthusiasm of someone who has never heard of indoor voices. Beneath the spectacle is a straightforward arcade racer: choose a vehicle, learn the track, avoid disaster, and try to finish ahead of the competition. The graphics are very much a product of the early CD-ROM era, which gives them a wonderfully nostalgic charm today. It is not the deepest racing simulator around, but it certainly knows how to make a lap feel like an event.
