Outcast

Outcast is a 1999 science-fiction action-adventure that sends players to the alien world of Adelpha, a place where the scenery is beautiful, the inhabitants are mysterious, and the local wildlife is generally not interested in making friends. The player takes on the role of Cutter Slade, a tough protagonist caught up in a story involving parallel worlds, advanced technology, and a civilization facing serious trouble. Exploration is a major part of the experience, with a large world to discover, strange cultures to encounter, and plenty of opportunities to wander off in the wrong direction. Outcast was ambitious for its time, offering a broad open environment before open-world design became practically mandatory.
