Road Runner is a 1989 DOS arcade game based on the famous cartoon rivalry between the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. Players control the extraordinarily fast bird as he races through hazardous landscapes while avoiding the increasingly desperate traps prepared by his persistent pursuer. The game relies on quick reactions, timing, and careful movement, with the familiar cartoon logic providing much of its personality. Of course, Wile E. Coyote is never far away, and his elaborate schemes tend to have exactly the sort of results viewers have come to expect. Road Runner successfully captures the frantic energy of the original cartoons, where gravity is optional and common sense is apparently illegal. It is a simple premise, but watching a determined coyote repeatedly fail remains strangely entertaining, especially when you are the one controlling the escape.
