Sky Shark is a 1989 DOS conversion of the classic vertically scrolling arcade shooter, putting players behind the controls of a fighter aircraft and filling the screen with enemy planes, tanks, ships, and enough ammunition to make international diplomacy seem unnecessary. The action is fast and relentless, with power-ups providing improved weapons and additional firepower as the player progresses. Like many arcade shooters of its generation, survival depends on memorizing enemy patterns, staying mobile, and learning when to concentrate on attacking rather than simply panicking. The colorful explosions and constant movement give the game plenty of energy despite the technical limitations of the hardware. Sky Shark is pure arcade entertainment: straightforward objectives, increasingly difficult stages, and the irresistible desire to beat the score from the previous attempt. It does not waste time explaining why the entire sky wants you dead. Apparently, that part is self-explanatory.
