Speed Zone

Speed Zone is an arcade-style racing game that puts the emphasis squarely on velocity, control, and surviving a course that appears to have little interest in your safety. Players race through tracks filled with bends, obstacles, and opportunities to push the vehicle to its limits. The controls are straightforward, but mastering them requires practice because high speed leaves very little time to correct a bad decision. The graphics are unmistakably from the late-1980s computer era, with simple scenery and vehicles doing their best to create a convincing sense of motion. That limitation gives the game a nostalgic quality today. Speed Zone does not try to simulate every detail of real motorsport; it simply wants you moving quickly and making increasingly desperate steering corrections. For fans of vintage racing games, that direct approach can still be surprisingly entertaining.
