Star Control 3 continues the series' blend of space exploration, alien diplomacy, strategy, and combat, taking players back into a galaxy populated by numerous civilizations with their own motives and problems. The game expands the strategic side of the formula, asking players to manage planets, resources, research, and relationships while dealing with a larger galactic conflict. Battles remain an important part of the experience, but knowing when to fight and when to negotiate can be just as valuable. Star Control 3 has a more serious tone than its predecessor in places, although the strange alien cultures and colorful science-fiction setting still provide plenty of personality. The result is a substantial space strategy adventure that rewards players who enjoy exploring systems rather than simply chasing a linear story. There are planets to conquer, technologies to discover, and civilizations to manage. Running a galaxy is apparently much like running a small town, except everyone has spaceships and several species can vaporize you.
