Starglider 2

Starglider 2 takes the original's flying and shooting formula and expands it into a much larger science-fiction playground. Released in 1989, it gives players a futuristic craft capable of flying across planets, entering structures, collecting objects, and attacking enemy forces. The environments feel considerably more open than those of a conventional arcade shooter, encouraging experimentation and exploration alongside combat. The game also introduces a wider variety of vehicles and situations, making the sequel feel more ambitious and varied. Starglider 2 has an energetic, almost playful approach to science-fiction action, with plenty of strange landscapes and mechanical enemies to keep things moving. The freedom is particularly enjoyable because you are not always forced along a single route. You can fly around, investigate, and occasionally discover that the thing you thought was scenery was actually extremely important. Naturally, discovering that fact at high speed is one of the game's traditional learning experiences.
