Steel Thunder puts you behind the controls of a modern tank and asks a deceptively simple question: how long can you survive when practically everything around you wants to turn your vehicle into expensive scrap metal? The game focuses on armored combat, giving you direct control over movement, aiming and weapon systems while enemy tanks appear across a succession of battlefields. It has a decidedly old-school approach to simulation, with a cockpit-like interface and plenty of attention paid to the business of finding, identifying and destroying targets. This is not a tank ride for tourists. You have to watch the terrain, position yourself sensibly and make your shots count. Steel Thunder may look primitive today, but its straightforward combat still has character. It captures the appeal of commanding a heavily armed machine without requiring a military academy diploma before you can start playing.
