Super Huey UH-IX

Super Huey UH-IX is an early helicopter simulation that places you in the cockpit and asks you to master the wonderfully awkward business of keeping a rotorcraft airborne. The game combines flight controls with combat missions, requiring players to balance movement, altitude, aiming, and navigation while dealing with hostile targets. It is considerably more technical than a simple arcade shooter, but it still keeps the action accessible enough to be entertaining. Learning the helicopter takes some patience, particularly if you are accustomed to aircraft that politely stay in the sky without constant correction. Once mastered, however, the controls become part of the attraction. Super Huey UH-IX offers a glimpse into the early days of computer flight simulation, when a handful of lines and colored pixels could somehow convince you that you were piloting several tons of machinery. It is rough around the edges, but its ambition is impressive, and crashing is an excellent reminder that helicopters have never been particularly forgiving.
