Super Star Wars brings the famous Star Wars universe into a side-scrolling action game filled with blasters, enemies, platforms, and enough danger to make the Death Star seem like a pleasant holiday destination. Players control familiar characters while fighting through environments inspired by the films, combining running, jumping, shooting, and occasional vehicle sequences. The game is fast and deliberately arcade-like, with waves of enemies arriving from practically every direction. It captures the visual flavor of Star Wars while adapting it to a traditional platform-action format. The challenge can be unforgiving, especially when enemies begin appearing in numbers that suggest the Empire has an unlimited recruitment budget. Super Star Wars is therefore best approached as a lively action game rather than a faithful simulation of being Luke Skywalker. It succeeds because it understands the appeal of the source material: recognizable locations, familiar characters, dramatic music, and the simple joy of firing a blaster at something that really should have known better.
