The Neverending Story 2: The Arcade Game takes the fantasy world of Fantasia and turns it into a straightforward arcade adventure. Based on the second NeverEnding Story film, the game puts you in control of characters exploring colorful environments filled with enemies, obstacles, and familiar creatures. Rather than reproducing the film as a traditional adventure, it concentrates on action, movement, and collecting useful objects. Levels are generally easy to understand, although later sections can become considerably less forgiving. The colorful presentation gives it a light fantasy feel, while the recognizable setting provides most of its personality. It is very much a product of its time, when movie licenses frequently became platform games regardless of whether anyone had asked for one. Still, there is fun to be found in guiding the characters through Fantasia, especially if you enjoy simple action games with a generous helping of 1990s fantasy nostalgia.
