The Taking of Beverly Hills turns the famous California neighborhood into the setting for a fast-moving action adventure with a distinctly late-1980s Hollywood flavor. The story revolves around a dangerous situation in Beverly Hills, leaving you to fight, drive and generally cause considerably more property damage than any sensible insurance company would tolerate. The game mixes shooting sequences with vehicle-based action and attempts to reproduce the feel of a movie tie-in rather than a traditional computer adventure. Its mechanics are straightforward, and much of the fun comes from the ridiculous situations and larger-than-life presentation. It is hardly a subtle experience, but subtlety was never exactly the defining quality of action movies of this period. The Taking of Beverly Hills works best as a time capsule: noisy, colorful, occasionally chaotic and completely convinced that every problem can be solved with enough bullets and horsepower.
