The Three Musketeers turns Alexandre Dumas's famous swashbuckling world into a computer adventure filled with swords, intrigue and opportunities to behave like a heroic Frenchman with absolutely no regard for personal safety. The story draws on the familiar trio of Athos, Porthos and Aramis, along with the ambitious young D'Artagnan, and mixes exploration with combat and adventure elements. Expect castles, guards, conspiracies and plenty of situations in which drawing a sword is apparently the most reasonable solution. The game captures some of the romantic flavor of the source material, even if its technology inevitably limits the spectacle. There is a pleasant sense of old-fashioned adventure running through the whole thing, and fans of historical swashbuckling will find plenty to enjoy. The Three Musketeers is essentially a digital invitation to shout 'All for one!' while repeatedly getting yourself into trouble.
