Turbo OutRun

Turbo OutRun brings Sega's famous arcade driving style to the home computer, putting the player behind the wheel of a fast sports car and asking a very simple question: how long can you keep going before the road, traffic, or your own enthusiasm gets the better of you? The game focuses on speed, branching routes, rival traffic, and the wonderfully exaggerated sense of freedom associated with classic OutRun-style racing. You are encouraged to drive aggressively, choose routes quickly, and enjoy the scenery whenever there is enough time to actually look at it. The controls are straightforward, although mastering high-speed corners takes practice. The DOS version naturally cannot reproduce the full arcade spectacle, but the spirit of the original survives. Turbo OutRun is pure retro driving entertainment: fast cars, bright roads, questionable braking decisions, and the irresistible temptation to say, “I can definitely make that corner,” immediately before discovering that you absolutely cannot.
