Ultima 5: Warriors of Destiny

Ultima 5 takes a darker turn. Lord British is missing, and his regent, Lord Blackthorn, has turned Britannia into a police state where virtues are enforced at sword-point. You know things are bad when honesty is compulsory and punishable by death. The game expands on its predecessor’s morality system with more complex dungeons and richer storytelling. It’s moody, atmospheric, and just the right amount of oppressive to make you feel like you’re part of a resistance movement. Think less “happy fantasy romp,” more “sneaking around, trying not to get executed for jaywalking.” It’s one of the series’ best-loved for good reason.
